The Battle of Bannockburn Relived in 3D

In the lead up to the 700th anniversary of Scotland’s Battle of Bannockburn, a new visitor centre at the historic site in Stirling has become the first in the world to use fight choreography and motion capture techniques to immerse visitors in a realistic 3D medieval battle.

Moody Gardens MG3D Cinema World’s First Museum with 4K 3D 6P Laser Projection

Later this year, Moody Gardens MG3D Cinema will become the world’s first museum-based 4K 3D giant screen 6P laser projection system. The upgrade will replace Moody Gardens’ existing 4K xenon system with a state-of-the-art pair of Christie 4K laser projection heads, a 6P modular laser light farm with fiber optic delivery, Christie 4K 3D high-bitrate server, new giant screen 6P laser glasses, and a new premium white screen. D3D Cinema is systems integrator for the project.

DMS Chooses Christie Projection for X-Men Premiere

Christie has been selected by preferred partner Digital Media Systems to provide the 3D digital cinema projection technology for the world premiere of 20th Century Fox’s film X-Men: Days of Future Past on Saturday, May 10. DMS will transform the River Pavilion at the Jacob Javits Convention Center into a theater to screen the highly anticipated X-Men sequel, with two Christie Solaria Series digital cinema projectors onto a 26-foot by 62-foot screen.

Royal Films and Bardan Select Doremi for Deployment of 130 Screens

As the South American market continues to rapidly expand, Doremi has reached a major agreement with Royal Films, one of Colombia’s largest cinema operators, through Bardan Cinema, one of Latin America’s largest integrators. Further expanding Doremi’s presence in the continent, this agreement adds 130 ShowVault/ IMB servers to Royal Film’s theaters.

Hawaii’s Polynesian Center Now Features 4D Digital Cinema Theatre

The Polynesian Cultural Center in Laie, Hawaii celebrated its 50th anniversary with an upgrade that features a new digital 4D theatre. Set on 42 acres on the North Shore of Oahu, the PCC enables visitors to explore all of the Polynesian cultures in the South Pacific. Since opening, the PCC has welcomed more than 37 million guests, becoming Hawaii’s number-one paid attraction.

Upgrading Digital Cinema Audio

With the digital cinema standard of 24-bit, up-to-16-channels of PCM non-compressed audio, now becoming reality, new challenges have arrived for existing equipment. Upgrading with just higher powered versions of existing solutions is just not enough to benefit from the new audio standard; speech, music and effect should be reproduced with non-compressed non-colored detail, with lowest distortion and fullest digital dynamics. Chocolate’s Fate in Interactive 4D

The Hershey’s Chocolate World Attraction, a new 4D Show, opened last month and its creators believe it is the first and only show of its kind. It features groundbreaking digital technology from Jim Henson’s Creature Shop and the largest year-round team of digital puppeteers in the world. The new show also offers a unique real-time experience with over 100 possible outcomes, as the audience determines the direction of the story through live participation.
