Hawaii’s Polynesian Center Now Features 4D Digital Cinema Theatre

The Polynesian Cultural Center in Laie, Hawaii celebrated its 50th anniversary with an upgrade that features a new digital 4D theatre. Set on 42 acres on the North Shore of Oahu, the PCC enables visitors to explore all of the Polynesian cultures in the South Pacific. Since opening, the PCC has welcomed more than 37 million guests, becoming Hawaii’s number-one paid attraction.

With the digital cinema standard of 24-bit, up-to-16-channels of PCM non-compressed audio, now becoming reality, new challenges have arrived for existing equipment. Upgrading with just higher powered versions of existing solutions is just not enough to benefit from the new audio standard; speech, music and effect should be reproduced with non-compressed non-colored detail, with lowest distortion and fullest digital dynamics. The Hershey’s Chocolate World Attraction, a new 4D Show, opened last month and its creators believe it is the first and only show of its kind. It features groundbreaking digital technology from Jim Henson’s Creature Shop and the largest year-round team of digital puppeteers in the world. The new show also offers a unique real-time experience with over 100 possible outcomes, as the audience determines the direction of the story through live participation.
