NATO Asks Congress for Aid; Pledge $1 Million to Movie Theatre Employees

The business model of the movie theatre industry is uniquely vulnerable in the present crisis. On behalf of the movie theatre industry and its employees, the National Association of Theatres Owners is asking for Congress and the Administration to urgently consider the following immediate relief measures, which we hope will allow the industry and its 150,000 employees, who live and work in practically every Congressional District, to weather the present COVID-19 pandemic crisis

Strike Media Proposes Free Newsletter for Film Distributors During Crisis

Wez Merchant, the founder and managing director of the public relations company Strike Media has a plan to support motion picture distributors during the COVID-19 crisis. He is launching a free newsletter that would include all the home entertainment, video on demand and premium video on demand movies being released each week.

In Response to Pandemic, DejaSoft Offers 50% Off Licenses

To help assist with the COVID-19 outbreak measures, DejaSoft is offering editors 50 percent off all their DejaEdit licenses over March and April. “As editors adapt to the current world-wide virus precautions, we are offering assistance to the post-production community by providing half-price licenses,” said DejaSoft’s CEO Clas Hakeröd. “As of Thursday March 19 through to the end of April, we will provide DejaEdit licenses for Avid editors at half the usual cost.”

Digital Cinema Distribution Coalition Now Paying Rebates

For the first time in its seven-year history, the Digital Cinema Distribution Coalition has begun to pay all its customers rebates. After recently paying back its founding investors – AMC Theatres, Cinemark Theatres, Regal Entertainment Group, Universal Pictures and Warner Bros. – initial investments in full, DCDC is now fulfilling the promise it made to all of its customers when it was formed to pay them rebates pursuant to the same mathematical formula in each of their agreements.

Netflix Dramatically Out Produced Amazon in 2019, Study Says

Netflix in 2019 launched about nine times as much original programming as its chief video-streaming rival Amazon, reflecting the divergent business models of the two companies, a new study shows. Last year, Netflix released 2,701 hours’ worth of original programming, compared to just 314 hours for Amazon Prime Video, according to the Omdia Original Online Production Report – 2020.

DTLA Film Festival Postponed Indefinitely Due to Pandemic

The 12th edition of DTLA Film Festival, a leading annual showcase for indie films in Los Angeles, has announced that it will postpone its 12th edition until further notice. Citing the worsening Covid-19 coronavirus epidemic and recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control and other agencies for all citizens to avoid public events, festival organizers said the time had come to pull the plug on this year’s festival.

CinemaCon 2020 Cancelled

John Fithian, president and CEO of the National Association of Theatre Owners and Mitch Neuhauser, managing director of the trade show CinemaCon issued a joint memo to the industry today to announce that, “It is with great regret we are announcing the cancellation of CinemaCon 2020.”
