Designed by architect Rudy Ricciotti, the Cineum Cannes multiplex has 12 cinematic theatres with a total capacity of nearly 2,400 seats in a spectacular architectural setting. A trained pianist and saxophonist who studied music production at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Phil McGowan, CAS, knows a thing or two about the perfect piece of music. After having dabbled in writing and composing music, McGowan soon found that his true passion was in mixing and engineering, and he moved across the country to focus on score mixing. Today, McGowan can be found mixing, recording and engineering from his studio – McGowan Soundworks, where he works on highly popular TV shows, films and video games, such as Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War.

Ceylon Theatres Get Sound Makeover

Ceylon Theatres is a Sri Lankan theatre chain with an 85-year history that currently operates six locations throughout the country. The latest location is a three-screen facility in Dematagoda, which also houses a KFC restaurant and Food City supermarket. In order to ensure an immersive cinematic experience with clear and balanced audio quality for moviegoers, Ceylon Theatres Regal Cinema Dematagoda required new sound systems for all three screens.

Motion Picture Sound Editors Present the 68th Annual Golden Reel Awards

The Motion Picture Sound Editors association presented the 68th Annual MPSE Golden Reel Awards Friday evening, April 16, at a virtual, international ceremony. Golden Reel Awards recognizing outstanding achievement in sound editing were presented in 22 categories encompassing feature films, long-form and short-form television, animation, documentaries, games, special venue, and other media.

NCG Cinema Opens 26th Location

NCG Cinema today unveiled their 26th location in the United States, a brand new, eight-screen theatre in Alton, Illinois. The theatre is one of the first new theatres to be constructed and open in the country following the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. The new NCG Cinema Alton is designed with more than 850 ultra-plush luxury recliners and the Dolby Digital Sound experience.

Every Emotion Sounds Different

As one of the preeminent feature film re-recording mixers working today, two-time British Academy of Film and Television Arts Award nominee Jaime Baksht has spent almost three decades behind the re-recording console, credited for mixing I Am No Longer Here (2020, Ariel Award Best Sound), Pan’s Labyrinth (2006, BAFTA Nominee, Goya Winner Best Sound), and Darius Marder’s directorial debut Sound of Metal (2021, BAFTA, CAS, AMPS Sound Nominee). Most recently, he received an Oscar nomination for Best Sound for his work on Sound of Metal. In film work, he says, every emotion sounds different.
