Lightyear’s Aria Re-Released

Lightyear Entertainment has announced the release of the newly-restored 30th anniversary edition of its groundbreaking multi-director film Aria. In Aria, ten of the world’s most creative and celebrated directors were each given the same brief: to choose a piece of opera music and then present a visual interpretation of that music with complete artistic freedom. Music was sourced from the massive RCA Red Seal catalog; the score features some of the world’s best opera singers.

Four New Titles Coming in Dolby Cinema

Four new titles are being added to the growing slate of movies to be shown at Dolby Cinema locations around the globe. They include Sony Pictures’ Passengers, due out December 21; Warner Bros. Pictures’ Live by Night, due out January 13; Paramount Pictures’ xXx: Return of Xander Cage, due out January 20; and Focus Features’ The Coldest City, due out July 28.

MTI Film Releases DRS Nova 2.3

MTI Film has released DRS Nova 2.3, an upgrade to its software for digital film restoration. The new release includes a host of new and enhanced features created in response to requests from restoration professionals worldwide. All are aimed at making such tasks as dust busting, image stabilization and de-warping faster and easier.

Arcadia Cinema Upgrades to Laser Projection

Arcadia Cinema in Melzo, Italy has installed a Cinemeccanica Lux 50K laser projection system, which delivers 50,000 lumens on Christie 4230 projectors. The theatre also has a Dolby Atmos sound system. The first screening will be December 15 with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Fresh Air Flicks Upgrades its Sound

Fresh Air Flicks founder/owner Glen Sanders spotted the trend of outdoor cinema early on as it gained traction in Brooklyn and other communities. Starting out in 2004, Sanders and Fresh Air Flicks were providing giant inflatable screens for events like Movies with a View that would bring as many as 8,000 people out for an evening to watch films in the park beneath the Brooklyn Bridge.
