The Society of Camera Operators has announced the nominees for the Camera Operator of the Year awards for the Film and Television categories. Nominees will be awarded live and in-person at the Loews Hollywood Hotel on February 25 during the annual Society of Camera Operators Lifetime Achievement Awards. In a first for the awards, the SOC has announced six nominees for Camera Operator of the Year in both the Film and Television categories.
Arsenal FX Color, with studios in Santa Monica, Albuquerque and Atlanta, has added colorist Tahirah Foy to its growing staff. Formerly with HBO, Foy brings diverse experience in color grading for television, film, and broadcast media, and in film restoration. In her first project for Arsenal FX Color, she will be performing final color grading for the feature documentary Big Boss, directed by Keke Palmer.
The board of Prasad Corporation, a leader in film preservation, digitization, and restoration has appointed Gunter Weidlich as managing director for its company Digital Film Technology.
Arri has named Dr. Raphael Kiesel as its new head of quality management. Based at the film technology company’s headquarters in Munich, Kiesel will convert customer requirements into products and services in an even more structured manner. With this position, Arri is placing even greater focus on the quality delivered to customers. Kiesel began January 1.
Dolby Laboratories’ Ioan Allen has been presented with the International Cinema Technology Association presented with its Icon Award. Allen becomes the second honoree to receive the award, which was first bestowed upon the Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation for its efforts to aid members of the cinema industry when COVID-19 closed theatres.
Post New York Alliance chair Yana Collins Lehman has been appointed to New York City’s Film and Television Council, which operates under the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment. Collins Lehman will join other industry professionals, representing labor unions, production companies, soundstages, studios, and trade organizations, in promoting economic development programs and policies to support the film and television sector of the city’s economy.
Among the newest additions to Rising Sun Pictures’ Brisbane Studio is lighting artist Matt Dorey. A 2018 recipient of the studio’s Graduate Certificate in Dynamic Effects and Lighting, Dorey began his career at Pixel Zoo, Brisbane, and earned his first screen credit at Mill Film Adelaide (now MPC) on the post-apocalyptic drama Love and Monsters (a 2021 Oscar nominee for Best Visual Effects). He also spent two years in Toronto at the studios Mr. X and MPC, contributing to projects including Cowboy Bebop, Nightmare Alley, and Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio.
