The Hollywood Section of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers has announced the results of its 2017 section elections. Newly elected to a one-year term as Hollywood Section officers are Jim DeFilippis as section chair and Steve Wong as secretary/treasurer.

Atlanta post house Nine Mile Circle has hired Julia Merrill as executive producer. Merrill, whose background includes nine years as a writer/producer for Cartoon Network, will lead client relations, business development and project management. She will also work with Nine Mile Circle editor and owner Kyle Kramb in implementing the company’s further expansion plans, including a move to a larger facility this fall.

Bringing a level of technical experience that will enhance Jellyfish Pictures’ expansion into developing standalone solutions, Wells’ role also sees him provide support and technical know-how to Jellyfish’s CTO Jeremy Smith.
Fathom Events, and its owners, AMC Entertainment, Cinemark and Regal Entertainment Group have named Ray Nutt as chief executive officer for Fathom Events. Nutt will be transitioning from Regal Entertainment Group to the role, where he will also serve as a board director.

New York Women in Film & Television has named Simone Pero president of its board of directors, effective July 1. Pero was most recently vice president of special events, and previously vice president of membership. She is founder of For Impact Productions, a social impact film marketing and production company.
The Hollywood Professional Association has announced that Larry Chernoff has been named 2017 recipient of the prized HPA Lifetime Achievement Award. Chernoff will receive the award during the HPA Awards gala on November 16 at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles, California. The HPA Lifetime Achievement Award is given to an individual who is recognized for service and commitment to the professional media content industry. The mission of the award is to give recognition to individuals who have, with great service, dedicated their careers to the betterment of the industry. The Lifetime Achievement Award is given at the discretion of the HPA Board and Awards Committee and is not given every year.
