Veteran post-production industry executive Stephen Buchsbaum has been appointed president and chief operating officer of Burbank headquartered 2G Digital.
Buchsbaum, whose background includes service as president of The Post Group, will oversee operations, direct sales and marketing, and lead strategic planning for the company, a specialist in digital mastering, content management and digital distribution for television and film. His immediate focus will be on broadening the company’s sales outreach and accelerating its on-going growth plans, which include both an expansion of its Burbank facility and the establishment of an outpost on the East Coast.
“Stephen is a smart and capable executive with a proven record for helping successful companies become even better,” said John B. Wilson, president of Hyannis Port Capital, 2G Digital’s parent company. “The entertainment industry’s use of file-based delivery is expanding rapidly and 2G Digital is well positioned to respond to the need for quality, expertise and service. Stephen brings the leadership skills, vision and business expertise to take this company to the next level.”
Buchsbaum said that he was impressed with the technical infrastructure at 2G Digital, which is built around a 10-gigabit backbone, as well as the strong relationships it has forged with studios and independent production companies, including Fox, Warner Bros., Disney, Fremantle Media, Lionsgate and Sony. Under his guidance, the company will focus on quality control, security, connectivity and customer service.
“We want to be the company you go to when you need your files moved quickly and reliably,” he said. “As an independent, we offer many advantages. We’re big enough to handle any workflow and spec requirements, and yet we are small enough to maintain one-on-one relationships with our clients.”
Buchsbaum added that he would seek strategic partnership relationships with other production and post-production companies offering complimentary services. He will also work to deepen 2G Digital’s ties to content distributors such as Apple, Amazon, Google, and Netflix.
Buchsbaum most recently served as a production and post-production consultant and managing partner at Traveling Light Partners, an independent film and television production company.
Previously, he served for six years as president of The Post Group and CEO of its affiliates, Lighting Media and iO Film. During his tenure, The Post Group became the first independent post house to implement a complete file-based workflow for production and distribution. His background also includes service as president of Video Research Corporation and vice president general manager of All Post.
