The Motion Picture Sound Editors announced today that award‐winning actor, comedian, and author Patton Oswalt will host the 71st Annual Golden Reel Awards. The event will take place March 3, 2024, at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles.
Making his second appearance as host of the MPSE Golden Reel Awards, Oswalt pointed to the indispensable contribution of sound editors to entertainment media. “As a film buff, getting to highlight the 'hidden artisans’ who create movie memories as important as any moving image, is a joy for me,” Oswalt said. “I can’t wait for this year’s MPSE Golden Reel Awards.”
MPSE president Mark Lanza said that the organization is thrilled to have Oswalt back for a second year. “Patton is the perfect host…witty, charming, and ingratiating,” Lanza stated. “He also has a true appreciation for the art of sound. Our members love him. We’re looking forward to another special night.”
Oswalt continues to leave his distinctive imprint across all areas of entertainment, from his award-winning comedy specials to his many guest roles on television. His most recent comedy special, We All Scream (which also marked his directorial debut) launched on Netflix last fall and Oswalt was recently nominated for a Grammy for his comedy album. Last year, he also starred in the Magnolia Pictures comedy I Love My Dad, winner of the Grand Jury and Audience awards at the 2022 SXSW Film Festival.
