The streaming and distribution platform Angel Studios has announced that the independent film Sound of Freedom, which opens in theatres July 4, topped $10 million in pre-sales, two days ahead of its US/Canada theatrical release.
“Time and again, Angel fans have proven that they’ll support films that are entertaining and inspiring, and Sound of Freedom is no exception,” said Jared Geesey, senior vice president of global distribution for Angel Studios. “We believe the Angels marshaling their resources for this film aim for it to stun people outside of our industry, to wake audiences all over the globe to the plight of these children. We are now closer to our goal of selling two million tickets this opening week to symbolize the two million children who are trapped in the horrors of trafficking each year.”
Sound of Freedom currently has a Rotten Tomatoes critics score of 92 percent.
Sound of Freedom stars Jim Caviezel, Academy Award winner Mira Sorvino Bill Camp, José Zúñiga, Eduardo Verástegui, who is also a producer, and is written and directed by Alejandro Monteverde.
Based on the incredible true story, Sound of Freedom shines a light on even the darkest of places. After rescuing a young boy from ruthless child traffickers, a federal agent (Caviezel) learns the boy’s sister is still captive and decides to embark on a dangerous mission to save her. With time running out, he quits his job and journeys deep into the Colombian jungle, putting his life on the line to free her from a fate worse than death.
