Dune Screenwriter Set to Direct Film for Laika

The award-winning studio Laika is expanding its live action slate with an original film written by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Jon Spaihts (Dune, Passengers, Doctor Strange), who makes his directorial debut with this sci-fi thriller. The as-yet untitled film tells the tale of a woman investigating a mystery that took place during a week she cannot remember.

Award-Winning Short Set to Become a Feature Film

Will Mauricette began working on his short film Spare Me in the summer of 2022, just before his junior year at Ringling College of Art and Design. It has since been selected for entry to more than 20 film festivals and earned a number of awards—including 2024 Best Picture from the Mometu College Shorts Film Festival in Los Angeles. Mometu, a streaming service specializing in independent and international titles, subsequently awarded funding to adapt Spare Me into a full-length film.

Trailer Released for French Olympics Documentary

Pi Studios and SRAB Films have begun showing the trailer for Crois Pas Qu’on Dort (Don’t Think We’re Sleeping in English), an inspiring and unique feature-length story of three young French athletes in the lead-up to the Paris 2024 Olympics and Paralympics. The 90-minute French language film, which was developed and produced by Pi Studios with the support of Nike, will premiere in mid-January 2025 followed by a release in theatres at the end of January.

Columbia Pictures’ Harold and the Purple Crayon is a live action/animation hybrid adaptation of Crockett Johnson’s beloved children’s classic about a boy who can make anything come to life simply by drawing it. After Harold grows up and draws himself off the book’s pages and into the physical world, he finds he has a lot to learn about real life—and that his trusty purple crayon may set off more hilarious hijinks than he thought possible.

Creating the Color Grade of The Forge

The Forge is an American drama film directed by Alex Kendrick and co-written by Stephen Kendrick. It is a spin-off to War Room (2015) and tells the inspiring story of a young man's journey for purpose through faith and discipleship. The film was shot in Albany, Georgia, by cinematographer Bob Scott and the color was completed by colorist Keith Roush in Atlanta, at Roush Media.
