Originally released in 1975, The Rocky Horror Picture Show has become one of the most enduringly popular movie musicals of all time, a staple of late night cinemas worldwide. A celebratory reimagining of the tale of Dr. Frank-N-Furter and his friends for Fox Television pairs original star Tim Curry (this time as the narrator) with an otherwise all-new cast in a rousing tribute to its predecessor that also offers plenty of fresh twists.
Animation, visual effects and design company Blur Studio has hired Eric Maurer, character effects supervisor and Oded Raz, asset supervisor. Maurer and Raz will bolster Blur's leadership team, increase the studio's capacity for larger projects, and foster the development of new technology as the company gears up for the next round of feature work by Blur co-founder and Deadpool director Tim Miller.
Lensreplace has completed principal photography on the horror film Coven, which shot on location in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The film took advantage of the Oklahoma Film Enhancement Rebate Program, which is administered by OF+MO.
Burbank-based AlphaDogs recently completed the post on writer, director, producer Robert McGinley’s new cyberpunk musical thriller Danger Diva. AlphaDog’s lead colorist and founder Terence Curren created the look for the film, which was shot entirely in 5K.
Walter Schonfeld, the former CEO of SDI Media Group and former president of Technicolor Entertainment Services, has joined Deluxe Entertainment Services Group as president, Digital Cinema Global Operations. Schonfeld brings decades of industry experience and a track record of implementing technology to transform client services to this new role driving worldwide operations for Deluxe Technicolor Digital Cinema.
Rodeo FX completed nearly 200 visual effects shots for The Legend of Tarzan, including action sequences with CG hippos and crocodiles, where realistic water interaction was critical for the success of the shots. The studio’s VFX work helped lift these animal sequences to a level where they look like scenes from a nature documentary. Along with butterflies and leaf cutter ants, Rodeo FX created a pod of hippos, including one ‘hero’ hippo that attacks Jane, as well as a bask of crocodiles seen in the final sequence of the movie.
A second feature film, Brice 3, has been re-mastered with Ymagis Group’s EclairColor digital color technology. The James Huth film starring Jean Dujardin, Clovis Cornillac and Bruno Salomone will be released in France on Wednesday and shown exclusively in EclairColor at the Gaumont Marignan cinema on the Champs-Elysées. The CinemaNext France teams have equipped one of the largest auditoriums at the Gaumont Marignan with EclairColor technology.
Ymagis Group will showcase its new EclairColor digital color solution in Los Angeles over a four-day period from November 1-4. The presentation will take place at the landmark 350-seat screening facility Harmony Gold Preview House on Sunset Boulevard, which has been specially equipped with a Sony Digital Cinema 4K SRX-R515 projection system.
