Rodeo FX has won a Visual Effects Society Award for its work on season five of Game of Thrones. The award for Outstanding Created Environment in an Episode honored the studio’s creation of the city of Volantis. Rodeo FX received the award last night at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles and can add it to the VES Award it won last year for its work on Birdman.

Laika Names Bradley Wald CFO

Laika, the Portland-based feature film animation studio whose first three films have each garnered Oscar nominations for Best Animated Film, has appointed Bradley Wald to the post of chief financial officer and senior vice president of business operations. The announcement was made today by Laika president and CEO Travis Knight.

IndieCrowdFunder Files for Funding Portal Status

The entertainment equity crowd-funding company IndieCrowdFunder.com has filed with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission to register as a Funding Portal under Title III of the Jumpstart Our Business Startups Act of 2012. The new rules, approved October 2015, will allow filmmakers to raise up to one million every twelve months via equity platforms from accredited and unaccredited investors.

Sony, Scholastic Donate Books to Save the Children

On the heels of the Goosebumps movie release on Blu-ray and DVD, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has joined together with Scholastic, the global children's publishing and education company, to donate 20,000 books to children in underserved communities as well as those recovering from crises or natural disasters in the United States. The books, featuring a selection of Goosebumps books by bestselling author R.L. Stine, are being donated through the Scholastic Possible Fund and will be distributed by Save the Children.
