FutureWorks helped to recreate Delhi’s Uphaar Cinema disaster for the recent Netflix drama Trial by Fire, delivering all previs images for the devastating fire scenes. The seven-part miniseries is a dramatization of the tragic events of June 13, 1997, where a fire caused by ill-maintained equipment during an afternoon screening of the war epic Border resulted in the deaths of 59 people, with a further 103 injured in the resulting stampede. Due to multiple safety violations, many cinema-goers were trapped inside, eventually succumbing to smoke inhalation.

The American Film Institute has launched a multifaceted partnership with Canva to empower rising filmmakers and improve access to the tools and skills necessary to realize their creative visions. Starting this year, as part of the new endeavor, Canva will establish The Canva Fellowship at the AFI Conservatory which provides scholarships for six AFI Fellows based on merit and financial need.

In 1851, the newly established border between Mexico and the USA is the setting for a conflict fueled by the anger and xenophobia caused by the Mexican American War. A group of immigrants forge the myth of the Latin Robin Hood, Joaquín Murrieta. La Cabeza de Joaquín Murrieta was created by Mauricio Leiva-Cock and Diego Ramírez-Schrempp, and directed by David Pablos (episodes 1-4), Humberto Hinojosa (episodes 5-8). The series was produced by Dynamo Productions and Amazon Studios. Cinematographer Paulo Perez, ADFC, was chosen to capture the wide vistas of Mexico in the new Latin-Western series.

Sphere Entertainment today announced the launch of Sphere Studios, dedicated to developing original immersive entertainment exclusively for Sphere, through proprietary technology, tools and production facilities. The first of the studios’ technology introductions includes Big Sky – an ultra-high resolution camera system.
