Peter Wetherell to Bolster WCPMedia Marketing

WCPMedia Services has announced that Peter Wetherell, who heads Magus Entertainment, has joined the company as senior advisor. A 30-year veteran of the motion picture and television industry, Wetherell will assist with WCPMedia Services sales and marketing efforts, broadening its market share among international sales agents, producers and distributors. He will be representing the company at the 70th Cannes Film Festival next week in Cannes.

Jeanette Zepeda Joins Roundabout Entertainment

Roundabout Entertainment has hired post-production industry veteran Jeannette Zepeda to fill the newly created post of executive director for business development, creative services. Zepeda will oversee sales and marketing for the facility’s post-production sound services, and for its newly expanded digital intermediates department, which provides color grading, editorial finishing and deliverables for features and television. She will also work with the facility’s senior management in developing new services and workflows to meet emerging market demands.

Mr. Wolf Expands to New York

Culver City, California-based visual effects boutique Mr. Wolf has opened a studio in New York City. The new operation, located within the post-production facility Post FactoryNY, will provide visual effects and finishing services for features, television, broadcast media, advertising and other projects. Mr. Wolf is known for its work on features American Hustle, Hercules, The Brother’s Grimsby and Allegiant. Its New York operation has already completed work for MTV’s Teen Wolf, Spike’s Adam Carolla and Friends Build Stuff, and VH-1’s America’s Next Top Model and Leave It to Stevie.

Jon Cowley to Lead FuseFX Vancouver Production Team

FuseFX has hired 18-year visual effects industry veteran Jon Cowley as head of production and senior VFX supervisor at its production facility in Vancouver. Cowley will oversee production activity at the facility lead its team of VFX supervisors on projects including the television series Zoo and Mist. He brings deep experience as a manager, supervisor and artist with credits including the blockbusters Furious 7, TRON: Legacy, The Great Gatsby, and District 9. Most recently, he served as a client-side VFX supervisor on the Netflix television series Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events.

NCM’s Snapp Named Chief Digital Officer

National CineMedia has named Lawrence Snapp to the new role of senior vice president of corporate development and chief digital officer. A Microsoft and digital transformation veteran, Snapp joined NCM in September as senior vice president of corporate development and will lead NCM’s newly formed digital products team focused on delivering innovative consumer experiences and new ways for brands to connect with movie audiences as chief digital officer.

Color Scientist Jerome Dewhurst Joins Roundabout Entertainment

Jerome Dewhurst has joined Roundabout Entertainment’s technical staff as chief color scientist. Dewhurst will oversee and manage the color pipeline for the facility’s growing digital intermediate and color correction operations, and set best practices for color company-wide. He will also lead research efforts to develop new software, technologies and services related to color management.

Vista Project Student Filmmaker Winners Named

The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers today announced that Shane Murphy has won the $5,000 grand prize in The Vista Project student filmmaker competition and that Jon Navarro was selected as runner-up. Led by cinema-industry pioneer Bud Mayo, chairman of New Vision Theatres, and by Barbara Lange, SMPTE and Hollywood Professional Association executive director, the judging committee named the winners during CinemaCon week, March 27-30 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
