Hot Docs Film Festival Temporarily Closes Toronto Theatre

Ongoing financial uncertainty is forcing the Hot Docs Film Festival to temporarily close its flagship Toronto theatre and lay off staff for about three months, the organization said. Canada’s largest documentary film festival said it will shutter the Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema starting June 12 as the organization tries to find a path back to profitability.

Christie Projectors Supporting Cannes Film Festival for 18th Time

Christie projectors are powering the screenings at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, which is running now through 25. This marks the 18th year that Christie has partnered with Cannes, and its projectors, both RGB pure laser illumination and its new series 4 Xenon-based systems, will be used in 24 spaces throughout the festival, including at the flagship Grand Théâtre Lumière room.

Barco today announced a special Cannes screening program showcasing critically acclaimed titles, prepared for and screened in the groundbreaking HDR by Barco format. The carefully curated slate highlights festival winners from Belgium, Italy, Germany, and the United States, making their global debut in breathtaking Barco HDR Lightsteering. Barco’s HDR film series will be held May 16-22 in Theatre 8 at the Cinéum Cannes Theatre.

The Outrun to Open 77th Edinburgh International Film Festival

The relaunched Edinburgh International Film Festival has announced that this year’s 77th edition of the festival will open with Nora Fingscheidt's adaptation of Amy Liptrot’s best-selling memoir, The Outrun. The festival has also announced that its shorts competition will be titled The Thelma Schoonmaker Prize for Short Filmmaking Excellence with the legendary film editor in attendance.

Your Monster to Open the Lower East Side Film Festival

The New York premiere of Caroline Lindy's romantic comedy, Your Monster, is set for opening night of the 14th annual Lower East Side Film Festival at Village East Cinema on Thursday, May 2. The film stars Melissa Barrera (Scream), who will be in attendance at the premiere, along with cast members Edmund Donovan (Tell Me Lies), Brian McCarthy (Paterson, The Americans), Taylor Trensch (Evil), and Kayla Foster (The Deuce, Call Jane) and crew members Caroline Lindy, Shannon Reilly, Scotty Anderson (Succession, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom), and Maribeth Fox (A Quiet Place, Bottoms).
