ASC Announces 2016 Outstanding Achievement Nominees

The nominees in the theatrical release category of the 30th Annual American Society of Cinematographers Awards for Outstanding Achievement are Roger Deakins, ASC, BSC for Sicario, Janusz Kaminski for Bridge of Spies, Ed Lachman, ASC for Carol, EmmanuelLubezki, ASC, AMC for The Revenant and John Seale, ASC, ACS for Mad Max: Fury Road. The winner will be revealed on February 14 during the ASC Awards gala at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles.

Ridley Scott to Receive ASC Board of Governors Award

The American Society of Cinematographers will honor the extraordinary achievements of director-producer Ridley Scott in advancing the art and craft of filmmaking by bestowing him with the organization’s annual Board of Governors Award. The presentation will be made during the 30th ASC Awards for Outstanding Achievement on February 14, 2016, at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza.

The Boy And The Beast gets Annie Nomination

The International Animated Film Society, ASIFA-Hollywood, announced on Tuesday the nominations for its 43rd Annual Annie Awards, which recognize the best in the field of animation. The list included a Best Animated Feature-Independent nomination for Mamoru Hosoda's The Boy and The Beast – the critically acclaimed anime film from Studio Chizu, which is being distributed in the U.S. by Funimation Entertainment.

SMPTE, HPA Announce Student Film Winners

The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers and the Hollywood Post Alliance have announced the winners of the inaugural SMPTE-HPA Student Film Festival. Held last month in Hollywood, California, during SMPTE’s annual fall conference, the film festival showcased submissions demonstrating creative uses of technology in storytelling.

City Tech Students Win Awards at International Film Festival

A team of nine City Tech students won two awards at the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers and the Hollywood Professional Alliance Student Film Festival in Hollywood, California, on October 27, which was hosted by SMPTE Standards Director and film director Howard Lukk. Their five-minute film Building for the Future: A City Tech Tale, traced the journey of the College’s 2015 U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon student team that built an energy-efficient house during a two-year long international competition.
