Camp Takota: Feature Filmmaking in the Age of YouTube will be the topic of a Super Session to be held next week at the National Association of Broadcasters convention in Las Vegas. The session will take place on Wednesday, April 9 at 2:30 p.m. in room S222.
Panelists will include the film’s producer, RockStream Studios’ Michael Goldfine; star Grace Helbig; and co-star and co-writer, Mamrie Hart. They will discuss the unique approach for the creation, marketing and distribution of this film. Camp Takota is ranked third on the iTunes Independent Movie Chart, below this year’s Best Picture Oscar-winner, 12 Years a Slave, and Best Picture Oscar-nominee, Dallas Buyers Club. Beth Troutman, host of RightThisMinute, the nationally syndicated television program covering online video, will moderate the session.
Camp Takota is a made-for-digital, feature-length comedy. With her personal and professional life in shambles, Elise (Helbig) takes a job as a counselor at her old summer camp, where she reunites with two estranged friends (Hannah Hart & Mamrie Hart) who attended camp and never left. When the future of the camp is put in jeopardy, the three friends must save it, changing the course of their lives. The power of the stars’ followings generated intense anticipation for the film. The initial trailer pulled in hundreds of thousands of views.
Goldfine is the founder and president of RockStream Studios, a Los Angeles-based digital media company focused on combining new methods of content creation and digital technology with emerging models of distribution. Goldfine is credited with enhancing digital outreach for major telecasts including the Academy Awards, the Olympics and the Grammys. Goldfine’s successful producing career includes television shows American Idol, Extra! and The Oprah Winfrey Show, plus Kevin Hart’s recent film Let Me Explain.
Comedic writer and YouTube sensation Hart created the pop culture, mixology show, You Deserve a Drink, with fellow comedian Helbig. The former Upright Citizens Brigade member continues to perform sketch comedy throughout New York City and sings with her band, Cudzoo & the Faggettes.
Comedian, actress and video blogger Helbig created one of today’s most highly-trafficked YouTube shows, It’s Grace, with more than 1.6 million subscribers, and hosts a live, national comedy tour, #NoFilter. She previously created the Streamy and IAWTV award winning channel DailyGrace, appeared in Tracy Morgan’s FX pilot and starred in Graces Faces for Bobbi Brown’s YouTube channel. Helbig is currently listed as one of Forbes 30 under 30, Time Magazine’s 140 best Twitter feeds, and BuzzFeed’s 11 Awesome Up-And-Coming Funny Ladies You Should Know.
