Cinemark Introduces All-Access Pass for Oscar Movie Week Festival

Cinemark is introducing a new all-inclusive digital pass for cinema’s biggest fans during its annual Oscar Movie Week festival. In theatres from March 21 through March 27, the festival gives fans the chance to experience this year’s Best Picture and Best Short (Live Action and Animated) nominated films and have their own ballot ready in hand when the 94th Oscar’s air March 27 on ABC. In partnership with Focus Features’ Downton Abbey: A New Era, the festival is being held at more than 100 participating Cinemark theatres nationwide.

For decades, the Delphi Filmpalast theatre has been among the venues of the Berlin International Film Festival, or Berlinale, one of the largest public film festivals in the world. With a 673-seat capacity, the iconic cinema, located in a historic theater building just steps away from Berlin Zoologischer Garten railway station, in the heart of West Berlin, is considered Germany’s biggest independent screen and one of Berlin’s most important premiere venues.

Europeans Returning to Cinemas in Steadily Growing Numbers, UNIC Reports

The International Union of Cinemas (UNIC) today released preliminary 2021 box office and admissions estimates for the territories covered by the organization. While these figures are based on initial estimates, the overview provided by UNIC represents the first wide-ranging assessment of the performance of the European cinema sector in 2021. More detailed final data on the performance of each individual UNIC territory will be released later in spring 2022.

Alamo Drafthouse Building Theatre in Birmingham, Alabama

Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas has announced that it will be the anchor tenant for a company called Orchestra Partners as it redevelops the historic Powell Steam Plant in Birmingham, Alabama. The theater will take up about 50,000 square feet of the former steam plant, while the remaining 36,000 square feet are still available for retail and dining. Construction on Alamo Drafthouse will begin this summer with an anticipated opening in the fall of 2023.

SDVI Program Would Create Carbon Neutral Media Supply Platform

The cloud-native media supply chains platform SDVI has announced an ambitious new sustainability program that the company says makes all usage of the Rally media supply chain optimization platform, going back to the beginning of 2021, completely carbon neutral. The program will also ensure that all SDVI customers benefit from permanent, ongoing carbon offsets for all Rally platform usage, including all third-party media applications used as part of a Rally-managed supply chain. Current SDVI customers include Sony Pictures, Funimation, and HBO Studios.

Kimco Realty Leases River Oaks Theatre

Kimco Realty has signed a lease with River Oaks Theatre, an affiliate of Star Cinema Grill in Houston, and plans to preserve the theatre’s history and Art Deco design, as well as its name, River Oaks Theatre, while also enhancing the cinema experience with a focus on unmatched hospitality, high-quality food and beverages, flawless presentation, and other cutting-edge theatre amenities.

Southern Selects Showtime Analytics for Data, Customer Communications

Southern Theatres has selected Showtime Analytics to provide it with an operational data platform and customer communication system. Southern Theatres, a top 20 theatre circuit in the United States, operates 18 multiplexes with 266 screens across the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Texas.
