Our work involves connecting with industry experts and tech innovators to drive advancements, providing tailored strategic advice to enhance operational efficiencies and customer experiences, and developing and implementing cutting-edge technological solutions to address industry challenges and explore new opportunities.” I recently spoke via email with Buyens about those challenges and opportunities. Meyer Sound Unveils Ultra Reflex

Tue, 01/12/2021 - 15:04 -- Nick Dager

Audio challenges have inhibited wider acceptance of larger direct view displays because, unlike with acoustically transmissive projection screens, loudspeakers cannot be located directly behind the visual image. Placing screen channel loudspeakers around the display perimeter compromises uniformity of coverage, stability of image localization, and overall audio fidelity. To address this situation, Meyer Sound has introduced Ultra Reflex, a patent-pending solution for optimum reproduction of discrete screen channel audio on large-scale direct view video displays. For the initial launch period, Ultra Reflex solution is paired with Sony’s Crystal LED. The first joint installation for the two technologies is at a reference-level screening room and lab on the Netflix campus in Los Angeles.

As part of the ongoing expansion of its sound resources, Sony Pictures Post Production Services has upgraded three mix stages on the Sony Pictures lot to support sound mixing for film and television in the immersive Dolby Atmos format. Among them is the 344-seat Cary Grant Theatre, the studio’s largest. Sony Pictures now has seven mix stages that support Dolby Atmos sound and plans to have nine within the next few years. The first project slated for an immersive mix in the upgraded theaters is Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man: Far from Home, which opens July 5.
