Motion Picture Sound Editors and Cinema Audio Society are event sponsors for the third annual Mix Presents Sound for Film, an all-day exhibition and conference spotlighting technologies and techniques behind sound for picture from production to playback. The event will be held September 17th at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City.
When scouting for a location for the premiere of Jason Bourne, Universal Pictures chose Las Vegas, an obvious choice since it’s the scene of the film’s climactic and chaotic car chase. But finding a venue large and grand enough to launch the film was another matter. There aren’t many movie theatres that can accommodate the thousands of celebrities and industry insiders expected to attend. Knowing that CinemaCon, the theatrical exhibition industry’s largest trade event, is held each year at Caesars Palace and that screenings are successfully done in the Colosseum, Universal felt confident that the 4,000 seat venue could provide a fitting launch pad for the new $120 million action thriller.
The Louvre Museum in Paris has selected Cinemeccanica France to supply and install a 6P CineCloud Lux laser projector and media server. The system, part of the Pyramid project, will be dedicated to the projection of arts, animation and various presentations related to the museum activities.
Jinyi Cinemas has signed Caiz Optronics Corporation and Cinemeccanica to retrofit 100 digital projectors in China this year in the top multiplexes in the cinema chain. The agreement is believed to be the biggest contract to date to introduce laser projection in the Chinese cinema market on wide scale.
Volfoni has partnered with Russia’s Nevafilm on a new high-end KinoMax multiplex to be that will be equipped with Volfoni’s 3D system. This partnership is seen as the start of a long cooperation between the three companies.
The Christie 6P laser projection at the National Infantry Museum’s Giant Screen Theater in Columbus, Georgia is earning applause from the public, school groups, veterans and active duty service members. Installed by AV industry pioneer D3D Cinema, the two Christie Solaria CP42LH 6P laser projectors enable the theater to show a range of 3D content and Hollywood blockbusters – as well as alternative content and live events – to better align the theater with the museum’s mission of providing guests with an immersive experience of the United States Army Infantry’s valorous history.
Christie will be providing all the projection for Spain’s first permanent dome to showcase 360° and other immersive environments including a second dome dedicated to virtual reality. Held in Madrid, the Immersive Festival Madrid 2016 is running from May 18-21 at Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM) and is free to attend.
Closed from 2004 to 2014, the reopened Center of Science and Industry Planetarium in Columbus, Ohio draws more than 100,000 visitors annually. In its earlier incarnation, the planetarium used Evans & Sutherland’s Digistar 2 – state-of-the-art for its time – but with the reopening in 2014, it was time for the latest and best technology.
