Landmark Cinemas, Calgary, Alberta, Canada has reached an agreement to be acquired by Kinepolis Group. The conclusion of the transaction is subject to customary government approvals.

Cineplex is Raising a Rukus
Cineplex has installed ten D-Box immersive virtual reality motion seats and systems in its Scotiabank Theatre in Ottawa, Canada. Construction is expected to begin shortly, with plans to open this fall with the Canadian premiere of a first-of-its-kind animated VR motion experience. Created and produced by The Virtual Reality Company, Raising a Rukus takes viewers on a series of magical adventures with a brother, sister and their mischievous pet dog named Rukus.
AAM Supports San Sebastian Film Festival
Arts Alliance Media and the San Sebastian International Film Festival have renewed their partnership for the fourth year running. AAM will provide theatre management system and enterprise TMS software solutions to efficiently manage all of the festival’s content and scheduling.
Deluxe Launches LIBRAS Service for Brazilian Film Releases
Deluxe Entertainment Services Group has launched a Brazilian sign language (LIBRAS) localization service. The service – the first of its kind outside of Brazil – is designed to help studios meet Brazil’s new LIBRAS accessibility requirements, which began to be enforced as of September 17 and necessitate that studios produce and deliver LIBRAS video recordings for any feature released in Brazilian theaters.

Sony Digital Cinema 4K will demonstrate its new Crystal LED direct view display technology at the 72ème Congrès de la Fédération Nationale des Cinémas Français in Deauville from September 25-28.
EclairColor HDR Showcased at FNCF
Ymagis Group will showcase EclairColor HDR cinema technology at the upcoming Fédération Nationale des Cinémas Français convention in Deauville, France. DTS:X Audio at 100th Movie Mark
DTS will reach the 100th theatrical title exhibited in its DTS:X immersive audio with the September 15 release of Lionsgate’s American Assassin, directed by Michael Cuesta and starring Michael Keaton, Taylor Kitsch and Dylan O’Brien.
B&B Theatres Upgrades Sound
B&B Theatres has signed an agreement to install DTS:X immersive audio powered by GDC servers at six locations this year and six in 2018, with the remaining locations to be rolled out in late 2018/early 2019. As a licensee of the DTS:X object-based immersive sound technology for the development of GDC immersive sound media servers, GDC will be leading the effort. With this agreement, B&B Theatres will become the largest U.S. movie theatre circuit to exhibit content released with a DTS:X soundtrack.
Ymagis Group Names New CFO, Strengthens Management Team
Ymagis Group has appointed Jean Firome has been appointed chief financial officer, replacing Rémi Gérard, who left the group this summer for personal reasons. Philippe Lefebvre joins the group as vice president procurement. Benoit Schils is the group’s new quality director.
SMPTE Symposium to Explore Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning
The Society of Motion Picture & Television Engineers has announced the program for its 2017 Symposium: Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in Digital Media Creation: The Promise, the Reality, and the (Scary?) Future. The October 23 event, which will take place at the Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood, California, immediately precedes the SMPTE 2017 Annual Technical Conference & Exhibition.
