Cineplex is Raising a Rukus

Cineplex has installed ten D-Box immersive virtual reality motion seats and systems in its Scotiabank Theatre in Ottawa, Canada. Construction is expected to begin shortly, with plans to open this fall with the Canadian premiere of a first-of-its-kind animated VR motion experience. Created and produced by The Virtual Reality Company, Raising a Rukus takes viewers on a series of magical adventures with a brother, sister and their mischievous pet dog named Rukus.

Deluxe Launches LIBRAS Service for Brazilian Film Releases

Deluxe Entertainment Services Group has launched a Brazilian sign language (LIBRAS) localization service. The service – the first of its kind outside of Brazil – is designed to help studios meet Brazil’s new LIBRAS accessibility requirements, which began to be enforced as of September 17 and necessitate that studios produce and deliver LIBRAS video recordings for any feature released in Brazilian theaters.

EclairColor HDR Showcased at FNCF

Ymagis Group will showcase EclairColor HDR cinema technology at the upcoming Fédération Nationale des Cinémas Français convention in Deauville, France. Two special presentations will take place at the Centre International de Deauville’s Michel d’Ornano Auditorium on September 26 and 27. Technical presentations of the technology will be also held. The EclairColor presentations will be open to all FNCF convention delegates

B&B Theatres Upgrades Sound

B&B Theatres has signed an agreement to install DTS:X immersive audio powered by GDC servers at six locations this year and six in 2018, with the remaining locations to be rolled out in late 2018/early 2019. As a licensee of the DTS:X object-based immersive sound technology for the development of GDC immersive sound media servers, GDC will be leading the effort. With this agreement, B&B Theatres will become the largest U.S. movie theatre circuit to exhibit content released with a DTS:X soundtrack.

SMPTE Symposium to Explore Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning

The Society of Motion Picture & Television Engineers has announced the program for its 2017 Symposium: Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in Digital Media Creation: The Promise, the Reality, and the (Scary?) Future. The October 23 event, which will take place at the Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood, California, immediately precedes the SMPTE 2017 Annual Technical Conference & Exhibition.
