Cineplexx Deploys Cinema Next Software

Austrian cinema chain Cineplexx, a subsidiary of Constantin Film Holding, will deploy Cinema Next’s proprietary Melody Theatre Management System and Symphony circuit management software across its entire network. This represents a total of 228 screens and 31 different sites. The rollout is expected to begin this summer at all Cineplexx cinemas located in Austria, Italy, Croatia, Albania, Montenegro and Serbia. Cinema Next is part of the Ymagis Group.

Audiences Upbeat About LightVibes

More than 80 percent of the moviegoers who have experienced Philips LightVibes had a positive response, according to a recent survey conducted by the company. The news was part of a presentation that Niels Van Duinen, general manager of Philips LightVibes gave earlier this month at CineEurope in Barcelona. The news was included in remarks that Van Duinen made at the Event Cinema Association’s reception. He was giving those present an update about Philips LightVibes Surround Cinema Lighting news and developments since the group’s last gathering at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.

Mars Cinema Group Adds D-Box Seating in Time for Bourne

ECCO Cine Supply and Service has reached an agreement with Turkish exhibitor Mars Cinema Group to install and service D-Box Technologies cinematic motion systems in two multiplex theatres in Istanbul. Under the agreement, ECCO will deliver a total of 80 D-Box motion seats to Cinemaximum Akbati, located in the up-and-coming northeast neighborhood of Instanbul, and Cinemaximum Akasya, situated in the university district on the Asian side.

Are Drive-Ins on the Rise?

Thanks, in part, to digital cinema technology, drive-in theatres are on the rise. According to the United Drive-in Theatre Owners Association, as of this month there are 324 drive-in theatres in the United States, 299 of which are digital, with a total of 595 screens. Though the numbers will likely never be as high as they were in the 1950s when the nation had more than four thousand drive-ins, the association says the drive-in business seems to be on an upswing. Funimation Acquires Rurouni Kenshin Film Trilogy

Funimation Films has acquired the Rurouni Kenshin live action, samurai film trilogy. The trilogy, distributed by GAGA Corporation, includes Rurouni Kenshin: Origins (released as Rurouni Kenshin internationally), Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno and Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends. Funimation has secured the exclusive North American rights to theatrical, home entertainment, video on demand and broadcast distribution of all three titles as part of its agreement with GAGA.

Wanda Cinema Opens Dolby Cinema Theatres in Asia

Vue’s 85th Multiplex Installs Sony 4K Projection

Vue Entertainment has further expanded its 4K footprint, installing Sony Digital Cinema 4K projection systems at the UK operator’s 85th major multiplex opening. The nine-screen complex is a major draw for visitors to The Oval, a 28,000 square meter flagship retail and leisure complex in the market town of Darlington in England’s North East.
