Surviving the Night

Wed, 08/10/2016 - 09:57 -- Nick Dager

When Luke Sauer, veteran director of photography of reality television production, including Wives with Knives and I (Almost) Got Away with It, was selected to shoot the Lasso he knew it would involve a lot of night shoots. Lasso, a survive the night thriller directed by Evan Cecil, centers around senior community center workers Kit (Lindsey Morgan) and Simon (Andrew Jacobs), whose lives are turned upside when they find themselves fighting to stay alive against a group of bloodthirsty cowboys from the local rodeo. Lasso is his first feature project. Currently in post-production, the film is slated for an early 2017 release.

Making a Killing

Fri, 08/05/2016 - 10:13 -- Nick Dager

Event cinema works best when the programming is directed at groups passionate about a specific cause. In those instances the movie theatre turns into a town square where people can share thoughts and ideas about how to make their cause a reality. A case in point, the theatrical run for Making a Killing: Guns, Greed and the NRA is scheduled for August 12-18 in Los Angeles and August 19-25 in New York City. Brave New Films, the documentary and short film production company headed by award-winning filmmaker Robert Greenwald, will partner with gun-violence prevention activists to turn multiple screenings during the theatrical run into opportunities to inform audiences about the issue and to organize against the forces of gun profiteering.

Bully Pictures Creates an Opus for GMC

Wed, 08/03/2016 - 09:16 -- Nick Dager

The precision engineering of GMC’s redesigned Acadia is compared to a world-class orchestra in a beautifully-crafted new spot, directed by Bully Pictures’ Sebastian Weiland for Digitas and Leo Burnett. Shots of a symphony orchestra, playing the introduction to The Who’s classic Eminence Front, are seamlessly blended with images of the next generation SUV driving through spectacular urban locales and landscapes. The voiceover invokes the confidence and attention to detail embodied by both orchestra and vehicle.
