Director Jon Favreau’s The Jungle Book won this year’s Oscar for Best Visual Effects. A Walt Disney Picture, the movie is unique because the only live action character, the boy Mowgli, was shot on bluescreen while everything else was computer-generated. The visual effects team included key talent from Technicolor and its subsidiary, the Moving Picture Company. Colorist Bryan McMahan Joins Roundabout Entertainment

Veteran digital colorist Bryan McMahan has joined Roundabout Entertainment. A frequent collaborator of Terrence Malick, McMahan has colored six films for the director dating back to the 2005 release The New World and including Weightless, slated for release next year. He has also worked with directors William Friedkin (Killer Joe), Robert Towne (Ask the Dust), Gore Verbinski (The Ring) and John Woo (Face/Off).

Ymagis Group Reports 2016 Revenue

Ymagis Group today reported its consolidated revenue figures for the fourth quarter of 2016 and 2016 fiscal year ended December 31, 2016. Ymagis Group continues its strong growth trend in 2016, the company said, with cumulative revenue up +13 percent at €178.2 million due to acquisitions undertaken in the last 18 months. Revenue for the fourth quarter of 2016 is up +1.6 percent at €52.3 million.

Fujifilm Unveils MK Series Cinema Lenses

Fujifilm has unveiled the MK Series of cinema lenses for E-mount cameras, which boast advanced optical performance, ultra-compact and lightweight design, as well as superb cost performance. The first in this series to be introduced, the Fujinon MK18-55mm T2.9, is a standard zoom with an 18-55mm focal length. It will be available in early March for $3,799.

SmallHD Introduces OLED Monitor

The 7.7-inch screen combines the renowned color accuracy and contrast ratio of an OLED display, with the feature set of the industry standard SmallHD 702-Bright so that it is ideal on camera or on a director’s rig. Able to produce wide color gamut color accuracy, it is an effective tool for DITs and directors on-set use.
