SMPTE Elevates 16 to Fellow Status

The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers has announced that this year — the Society's centennial year — it will elevate 16 industry leaders to the status of SMPTE Fellow. This honor is conferred on individuals who have, through their proficiency and contributions to the industry, attained an outstanding rank among members of the Society. Here are the new SMPTE Fellows:

Chad Cortvriendt, Graeme Marshall Join FuseFX Vancouver

FuseFX, Vancouver, has hired VFX producers Chad Cortvriendt and Graeme Marshall both of whom bring lengthy experience in the Canadian visual effects industry and credits spanning television, features, advertising and other media. The two producers are working with teams creating visual effects for series such as Legion, Dark Matter and Zoo.

Christie Names Beiersdorf, Muscat Vice Presidents

Christie today announced that industry veteran Susie Beiersdorf has joined Christie as vice president, cinema sales – Americas, while long-time Christie stalwart Dave Muscat has been promoted to vice president, sales, enterprise solutions – Americas. The two new positions are effective immediately and will report to Dale Miller, executive vice-president, global sales, for Christie.

Carl Moore New Roundabout Senior Producer for Features

Roundabout Entertainment has appointed post-production veteran Carl Moore as senior producer for feature film services. Moore, who has helped guide more than 50 films through finishing, will work with clients in planning for post, and will manage projects through final editorial, color grading and delivery. Moore formerly served as a digital intermediate producer at Modern VideoFilm, where his credits included The Young Messiah, Self/less and Veronica Mars.

Zeiss Celebrates Founding Father's 200th Birthday

Carl Zeiss was born September 11, 1816 in the town of Weimar, Germany. The mechanic opened a small workshop for precision mechanics and optics in Jena in 1846, laying the foundation for today’s global technology player Zeiss. "Without these achievements and the intellectual legacy of its founding father, Zeiss would not be as successful as it is today," said Dr. Michael Kaschke, president and CEO of Carl Zeiss AG. This year the company will celebrate the 200th birthday of its founder with many different activities and events.

SMPTE to Honor Cameron, Trumbull

The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers will honor filmmakers James Cameron and Douglas Trumbull as part of this year’s weeklong SMPTE 2016 Annual Technical Conference & Exhibition in Hollywood, California. The society will also recognize a long list of outstanding individuals with its 2016 Honors & Awards.

National CineMedia Names Katie Scherping CFO

National CineMedia today named Katie Scherping chief financial officer effective August 11, 2016. Scherping will also serve as CFO of NCM LLC. With more than 30 years of finance, accounting and managerial experience, Scherping comes to NCM from Quiznos, where she had served as interim president and CEO since June. Previously, she had been a part of the Quiznos management team in the role of chief financial officer since December 2013.

NYWIFT, IRIS Names Writers Lab Winners

New York Women in Film & Television and IRIS, a collective of women filmmakers, has selected the screenwriters to participate in the second year of The Writers Lab. The program is the only lab in the world dedicated to providing script development for women writers over the age of 40, and is funded by Academy Award-winner Meryl Streep.

David Feldman Joins Post Factory NY

Post Factory NY, a Sim Group company, has appointed David Feldman as senior vice president for features and television as part of the facility’s ongoing effort to broaden and enhance its service offering. Feldman, previously director of feature sales for Company 3 and Deluxe, New York, will lead sales and customer relations for newly­ expanded features and TV finishing services at Post Factory NY. He will also liaise with other Sim Group companies to provide film and television producers with packaged services covering multiple aspects of production and post.
