The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers has elevated 15 industry leaders to the status of SMPTE Fellow. This honor is conferred on individuals who have, through their proficiency and contributions to the industries, attained an outstanding rank among members of the Society. New SMPTE Fellows will be elevated on October 28, during the Fellows Luncheon, held in conjunction with the SMPTE 2015 Annual Technical Conference & Exhibition at the Loews Hollywood Hotel in Los Angeles.
Randy Reck, an engineer and product specialist with broad expertise in production and post-production workflow technologies, has joined MTI Film as director of product development. Reck will oversee product development, sales and marketing for Cortex, the company’s line of dailies solutions, DRS Nova, its digital restoration package, and other software-based products. Reck’s background includes senior technology posts with Panavision, EFilm and Encore Hollywood.
Continuing to broaden its roster of commercial filmmakers, Accomplice Media has signed comedy director Ben Whitehouse for exclusive representation in the United States. The British-born director launched his career in 2009 and since then has established himself as a master of character-driven comedy through work for Subway, Amazon, Enterprise, KFC, Specsavers, Phones 4U and others.

Movie has appointed Dr. Bryan Smith as the company's chief data scientist. A computational scientist with research and management experience, Smith most recently was research group manager, information & communications technologies at Callaghan Innovation, the New Zealand government agency, which commercializes technical innovation of New Zealand companies. The announcement was made by Will Palmer, Movio’s chief executive and co-founder.
Continuing to grow its sound department, Sony Pictures Post Production Services has added award-winning re-recording mixers Steve Pederson and Daniel J. Leahy to its creative staff. Pederson and Leahy have worked as a team on a number of motion picture projects, including the Antoine Fuqua film The Equalizer, which, as independents, they mixed on Sony Pictures’ Cary Grant Stage last year. They are currently mixing Fuqua’s latest film, Southpaw on the Sony lot. Upcoming projects include HBO’s True Detective and Fuqua’s remake of The Magnificent Seven.
The Cinema Advertising Council has announced two additions to its board of directors. Spotlight Cinema Network president Michael Sakin was elected to represent the association’s Level II members – vendors who represent exclusive selling rights on 4,999 U.S. movie screens or less – replacing Bob Shaw; and Marcus Theatres assistant vice president, sales/research & development Clint Wisialowski has been chosen to represent CAC affiliate members, replacing Stewart Harnell.

The Board of Governors of the American Society of Cinematographers has re-elected its slate of officers for another term. Continuing to serve in their roles will be Richard Crudo as president; Owen Roizman, Kees Van Oostrum and Lowell Peterson as vice presidents; Matthew Leonetti as treasurer; Fred Goodich as secretary; and Isidore Mankofsky as sergeant-at-arms.
