Spotlight Finished at PostFactoryNY

Spotlight, director Tom McCarthy’s powerful, new drama, tells the true story of the Boston Globe’s investigation of child molestation by Catholic priests and the subsequent cover-up by the local archdiocese. The film, released by Open Road Films, was edited by Tom McArdle in his fifth collaboration with McCarthy, dating back to 2003 and The Station Agent, the director’s feature debut. McArdle and his crew spent 10 months cutting Spotlight at PostFactoryNY’s facility, with eight months devoted to picture editing, and two to sound, music and visual effects.

Sony Restores Hayworth Musical Cover Girl

Sony Pictures Entertainment recently completed a 4K restoration of Cover Girl, director Charles Vidor’s 1944 Technicolor musical that marked one of the first starring roles for Rita Hayworth. The new restoration, completed under the supervision of Grover Crisp, Sony Pictures executive vice president asset management, film restoration & digital mastering, recently premiered at The Museum of Modern Art in New York’s just-concluded thirteenth International Festival of film preservation, To Preserve and Project.

MediaMation MX4D Debuts in Dubai

MediaMation has been commissioned to produce a 132-seat MX4D Motion EFX Theatre for Reel Cinemas in The Dubai Mall, the world’s largest and most-visited retail and entertainment destination. The Reel Cinemas project is scheduled for installation this month. Middle Eastern systems integrator Scrabble is handling the installation.

Barco Escape Movie Theatre First in Asia

Barco and China Film Group have announced the installation of Asia’s first multi-screen, panoramic Barco Escape movie theatre at the Changping AEON Cineplex in Beijing, China. A second Barco Escape theatre will open at CFG’s United square Cineplex in Shanghai this December.The format debuts to audiences in China this month with 20th Century Fox’s Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials.

The Boy And The Beast gets Annie Nomination

The International Animated Film Society, ASIFA-Hollywood, announced on Tuesday the nominations for its 43rd Annual Annie Awards, which recognize the best in the field of animation. The list included a Best Animated Feature-Independent nomination for Mamoru Hosoda's The Boy and The Beast – the critically acclaimed anime film from Studio Chizu, which is being distributed in the U.S. by Funimation Entertainment.

Deutchman Film Archive Going to Michigan

The University of Michigan Library will welcome the papers of another maverick to their growing collection of material that highlights visionaries in the genre of independent film. Ira Deutchman has announced that he will donate his entire archive to U-M's Screen Arts Mavericks & Makers collection. The announcement was made December 2 at Lincoln Center in New York.

SMPTE, HPA Announce Student Film Winners

The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers and the Hollywood Post Alliance have announced the winners of the inaugural SMPTE-HPA Student Film Festival. Held last month in Hollywood, California, during SMPTE’s annual fall conference, the film festival showcased submissions demonstrating creative uses of technology in storytelling.

Autodesk Launches 3ds Max 2016 Extension 2
