The New York Film Critics Series has partnered with Ivy and the nation’s leading independent cinemas to present live, national, in-theater screenings. The events are moderated by Peter Travers, film critic for Rolling Stone Magazine and ABC’s Popcorn, along with additional coverage by Alison Bailes of BBC, More Magazine, WOR Radio, and The Charlie Rose Show. The series presents live, interactive, in-theater; pre-release movies and big screen HD simulcast with the stars and filmmakers.

Jacob Burns Film Center Unveils Two New Theatres

The Jacob Burns Film Center has unveiled its two new theaters, bringing the total number of screens in the cinema complex to five. The completed construction marks the end of the first phase of Jacob Burns Film Center’s campaign Building on Success, Fulfilling a Promise to our Community. The theaters officially opened to the public on Friday, March 6.

Since last August the Jacob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville, New York – in addition to being one of the country’s premiere art house cinemas – has been a construction site. Work began then to add two new screens and other amenities to the complex, bringing the total number of screens to five. When completed next month those new theatres will greatly expand the center’s already impressive capabilities.

Construction has begun to add two new theatres to the Jacob Burns Film Center. The new theatres, which will be on the third floor of the cinema complex, will provide JBFC with 80 additional seats. The construction is contained within the existing footprint of the building and should be completed by January 2015. The JBFC Theatre will remain open during construction.

Restored Stations of the Elevated to Premiere June 27 at BAMcinemafest

On Friday, June 27 BAMcinemafest will present the world premiere of APD/Cinema Conservancy’s new restoration of Stations of the Elevated on the Steinberg Screen at the BAM Harvey Theater. The event begins with a live performance by legendary jazz ensemble the Mingus Dynasty, the original Charles Mingus legacy band. The first band Sue Mingus organized after Charles’ death in 1979, this acclaimed orchestra continues to interpret Charles Mingus’ more than 300 compositions, and will perform as a prelude to Manfred Kirchheimer’s jazz-inflected documentary.
