Since 1973, the Norwegian International Film Festival has been held annually in Haugesund, Norway. It runs for 10 days in August, during which attendees have the opportunity to view over 70 films from 24 countries. In the cinema world, the Norwegian International Film Festival in Haugesund is considered The Nordic Cannes.
In a technology tour that covered several U.S. cities last week, Dolby executives provided an overview on the evolution of its Atmos sound platform in both professional and home markets. Among the highlights was the news that Dolby has developed two new technologies for home theatres and this year will unveil the first loudspeaker to carry the Dolby logo.
Christie Solaria Series projectors and Christie Vive Audio cinema systems have been installed in a newly opened cineplex located in New Farm, a trendy inner-city suburb of Brisbane. Known as New Farm Cinemas, the complex houses six auditoriums that are color-themed with each theater catered for different purposes and clientele.
Southern Theatres has completed its second all Christie entertainment complex, at the new Southern Theatres Movie Tavern 8 in Covington, Louisiana. The eight-screen cinema eatery has Christie Solaria Series projectors and Christie Vive Audio cinema systems.
Christie, through a generous donation of equipment and installation services, will be the sole provider of all cinematic and audio equipment within the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts Eileen Norris Theatre, and will be working together with USC SCA in enhancing visual technologies, specifically cinematic ones.

With the help of system integrator Protronic, Arena Cinemas, Geneva, Switzerland, has equipped each of its nine theaters with Auro 11.1 immersive sound by Barco. The upcoming films Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Lucy and Into the Storm have all been mixed in Auro 11.1.
Kundo: Age of the Rampant will be mixed and released in the Dolby Atmos cinema sound format. Filmmakers use Dolby Atmos to place and move sounds anywhere in the movie theatre, including overhead, to make film audiences feel as if they are inside the movie and not merely watching it.
