QuVIS Selects Paragon Software for Wraptor

QuVIS has selected Paragon Software’s Universal File System Driver technology to embed within their new Wraptor Digital Cinema Package mastering plug-in for Apple Final Cut Studio. Paragon's technology fulfills the requirements for creating a digital cinema content distribution hard drive according to the Digital Cinema Initiative specifications by enabling a Mac with Wraptor and Final Cut Studio to: Create a Linux ext2/3 File System partition on a USB2.0 external hard drive suitable for use as a DCI-compliant distribution hard drive.

Universal Pictures International to Support Ymagis Digital Cinema Roll Out in Europe

Ymagis the Paris-based European digital cinema services provider has announced that Universal Pictures will provide movies to theaters equipped by Ymagis and will pay digital print fees under a long-term agreement similar to those signed by Paramount Disney and Fox. Ymagis started its roll out activity in July after the first signing contracts with distributors and has so far signed contracts with exhibitors for a total of 29 screens in France.

Katzenberg Fox Sports’ David Hill Keynote Speakers at 3D Entertainment Summit

David Hill chairman and chief executive officer Fox Sports Television Group will deliver the second keynote address for the 3D Entertainment Summit on December 2 at the Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles California. As announced previously Jeffery Katzenberg chief executive officer and president of Dreamworks Animation will deliver the opening day keynote address on Monday December 1.   In the opening highlight of the event Katzenberg will discuss the future of 3D before event attendees. Mr. Hill will deliver a presentation that addresses broadcasting sports to the home in 3D.

Carmike Cinemas to show Five Royal Opera House Masterworks in 26 States

Carmike Cinemas has announced that The Royal Opera House in HD Series of Five Masterworks will be featured on 42 digital high definition screens through DigiScreen at local Carmike theatres in 26 states. The Royal Opera House is the home of three world-class performing companies -- The Royal Ballet The Royal Opera and The Orchestra of the Royal Opera House. Carmike Cinemas will feature a series of five masterworks - including two operas and three ballets. Carmen: Thursday October 16 7:00 p.m. and Sunday October 19 1:00 p.m.

Christie Supports Manhattan Short Film Festival

Christie returned for the 11th straight year as the exclusive digital projection sponsor of last month’s annual Manhattan Short Film Festival. As the founding sponsor of the international festival Christie provided its Roadster HD18K 3-Chip DLP projector to screen the 12 festival finalists in MSFF's new location on Spring Street in New York City.

 According to festival director and founder Nick Mason the festival continues to grow in popularity every year with audiences exceeding expectations worldwide.

Lost Heroes CSI and The Middleman Producers Anchor Panel at SMPTE 2008

Pioneering show runners Jesse Alexander (Heroes Lost) Tim Kring (Heroes Crossing Jordan) Javier Grillo-Marxuach (The Middleman Medium) and Naren Shankar (CSI UC: Undercover) will partake in an in-depth panel discussion about transmedia — branding and storytelling across multiple media channels — at SMPTE's annual fall conference later this month.  They are the first of several top creative talents to be named to the session which will be moderated by noted author and journalist David Kushner and sponsored by the Fast Company magazine.

Hollywood Post Alliance Announces Award Nominees

Nominations were announced by the Hollywood Post Alliance for the Third Annual HPA Awards.   Winners of the prestigious HPA Award will be announced on November 6 at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles California. The awards launched in 2006 acknowledge creative and technical excellence in the art science and craft of post production in twelve categories. The HPA Awards recognize the abilities of the talented men and women behind the scenes that are a vital part in the creation of motion pictures commercials and television.

Study says that Hollywood Movies Still Thrive during Tough Times

Theatrical box office revenues hit a gross record of $9.67 billion domestically in 2007 besting the previous mark of $9.29 billion set in 2002 a recent study shows. SNL Kagan’s “Economics of Motion Pictures” analyzes all films released on 1 000 or more screens from 2003 to 2007 providing 10-year pro forma models based on genre and budget range with varying distribution structures. Included are detailed costs for action animation comedy drama family horror romance sci-fi/fantasy and thriller films.
