Iconic Releasing Major Fight in May, Names Bunnell CEO

The event cinema company Iconic Events announced today that the company has enlisted theatrical circuits representing over 1,000 locations to the expanding network of theaters playing its programming, and that Steve Bunnell has been named chief executive officer. The announcement was made by Iconic Events executive chairman Michael Lambert. Iconic will bring audiences the super middleweight fight between Canelo Alvarez and Billy Joe Saunders on May 8 through a new partnership with DAZN and will bring the rematch of McGregor/Poirer to theaters in the just-announced UFC event on July 10.

GQT Movies Adopts CES+ Cielo TMS

GQT Movies, a chain of 22 movie theatres headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan, CES+ Cielo theatre management system to run its 174 screens in the United States. CES+ will oversee the implementation of Cielo’s technology across GQT Movies locations, including future locations the chain will represent. The platform will enable GQT Movies to reduce support costs while increasing uptime levels through features like smart alerts, hands-on customer service and more.

Barco, Imax Expand Relationship, Plan Full Laser Conversion

Barco and Imax Corporation have announced the further expansion of their long-standing relationship. As part of the expansion of their ongoing partnership, the companies will now collaborate on optimizing the use of Barco’s latest laser light source technology to help power Imax systems globally, further enabling Imax to convert its more than 1,000 systems to laser over time. An additional multi-year support agreement will enable not only the brightest but also the most reliable performance for Imax laser theatres across the world.

National CineMedia Showing New COVID-19 Vaccine PSA

National CineMedia is now showing the Creative Coalition’s new COVID-19 vaccine PSA in movie theatres around the country. The spot, titled Be There. This Is Your Shot and starring Academy Award-winning actor Morgan Freeman, urges Americans to “Trust science. Get the vaccine.” The PSA was produced in partnership with the National Blue Ribbon Task Force to Stem COVID-19 Vaccine Hesitancy, led by The Creative Coalition and Yale University School of Public Health.
