GDC Signs Latin American Agreements with Six Hollywood Studios

GDC Technology’s Digital Cinema Network has signed separate non-exclusive digital cinema deployment agreements with each of the six Hollywood studios — Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International, Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation, Paramount Pictures Global, Sony Pictures Releasing International Corporation, Universal Pictures International and Warner Bros. Entertainment – to deploy DCI-compliant digital cinema equipment to cinemas in the Latin American region.

This year the buzz at CineEurope seemed to be all about alternative content, or event cinema as it’s being increasingly referred to. As chair of the ECA it’s difficult to gain real perspective from the eye of the storm but having seen the business grow from an occasional add-on for exhibitors to a serious revenue stream in more recent years, the sense in Barcelona last month was that in event cinema, the possibilities are endless and the sense of real excitement was tangible. Everyone from major studios to major cinema chains to independents to technical partners seemed keen to know more, hear more, do more to exploit this established and still growing revenue stream.

Casablanca Meeting Considers Future of South Mediterranean Film Business

The European Union's Euromed Audiovisual III program and the European Audiovisual Observatory, in collaboration with the Moroccan Film Centre, brought together cinema experts from around the South Mediterranean region in Casablanca on June 20 and 21.These Arab film professionals met representatives of international bodies working on statistics in cinema, and successfully developed recommendations (see link below to download) for a permanent South Mediterranean network to ensure systematic collection and exchange of data on the region's film sector.
