CGV, IMAX Expand Ongoing Relationship

CGV and IMAX Corporation have announced a broad expansion of their longstanding partnership with an agreement to launch 17 new theatres around the world. The expansive agreement includes nine new IMAX theatres in South Korea — one of IMAX's fast-growing markets and home of its highest grossing screen worldwide — as well as theatres across CGV's global footprint, which includes Turkey, Vietnam, and Indonesia.

Movie Tavern by Marcus is a premium theatre concept offering restaurant-style dining and in-seat service for moviegoers. At its new location in the Brookfield Square shopping center in suburban Milwaukee, guests can enjoy dinner and a movie in the premium SuperScreen DLX theatre. It is the first full theatre complex in the U.S. to exclusively feature JBL Sculpted Surround and Dolby Atmos.

Southern Theatres Opens New GPX Auditorium

Southern Theatres has undertaken a complete renovation of the former Grand Theatre with the recently opened Amstar Cinemas 18 Four Seasons Station in Greensboro, North Carolina. With 18 screens, 12 of which were newly renovated, the complex features a Grand Premium Experience Auditorium offering the ultimate movie-watching experience. Opening to the public on December 12 in time for the premiere of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the renovation includes luxury recliners, a full lobby bar, and made-to-order food with in-seat delivery.

Rethinking a Movie Theatre

Combining one of the oldest architectural designs in the Western world – the amphitheatre – with some of the most advanced motion picture exhibition technology available today may sound like a great idea for a new movie theatre. Applying that concept to an existing theatre, though, makes the challenge seem truly daunting. But that’s exactly what happened when B&B Theatres acquired an old movie house in Overland Park, Kansas and set about the work of making it their own. The result is the world’s second largest ScreenX auditorium and its first ScreenX Amphitheatre, complete with a unique approach to the DTS:X sound system.
