Panasonic Announces EVA1 Video Contest for U.S. and EU Filmmakers

Panasonic has announced the AU-EVA1 Share Your Vision Video Contest, open to video professionals throughout the United States and European Union countries. To participate, contestants should register at https://eva1contest.hscampaigns.com/ and submit videos shot with the Panasonic EVA1 cinema camera from 25 seconds to five minutes in length from June 1 through August 24, 2018.

Pace Pictures Opens New Hollywood Facility

Independent post-production company Pace Pictures has opened a new sound and picture finishing facility in Hollywood. The 20,000 square foot site offers editorial finishing, color grading, visual effects, titling, sound editorial and sound mixing services. Key resources include a 20-seat, 4K color grading theater, two additional HDR color-grading suites and ten editorial finishing suites. It also features a Dolby Atmos mix stage designed by three-time Academy Award-winning re-recording mixer Michael Minkler, who is a partner in the company’s sound division.

Helios and Matheson Analytics Launches MoviePass Films

Helios and Matheson Analytics has formed MoviePass Films with Emmett Furla Oasis Films. Helios owns 51 percent and EFO Films 49 percent of the new company. MoviePass Films will focus on studio-driven content and new film production for theatrical release and other distribution channels. At the same time Helios announced that EFO Films has granted Helios the exclusive option to acquire the entire film library and current production slate of EFO Films.

Testing the Limits of Sound Recording

UK-based Colin Nicolson has worked as a production sound mixer and recordist since the eighties, first in television and documentaries then increasingly in motion pictures, over recent years racking up credits including Murder on the Orient Express, T2 Trainspotting and The Theory of Everything. He’s now working on Walt Disney Pictures’ Artemis Fowl, which is currently in production.

Over the years, my company has been involved in productions that span the gamut, from creating ads and television programs to documentaries and indie feature films. Though there’s certainly a lot of variety in our work, we focus heavily on documentary projects. For example, for the past 17 years, I’ve been the documentarian for TIGHAR (The International Group for Historic Aircraft Recovery) on an ongoing project to discover what happened to pilot Amelia Earhart — work that has resulted in a couple of Discovery Channel programs.

Files Joins Sony Pictures Post Production Services

Award-winning supervising sound editor and re-recording mixer Will Files has joined Sony Pictures Post Production Services. Files, who spent a decade at Skywalker Sound, brings credits on more than 80 feature films, including Passengers, Deadpool, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Fantastic Four. Files won a 2018 MPSE Golden Reel Award for his work on War for the Planet of the Apes. His current project is the upcoming Columbia Pictures release Venom out in U.S. theaters October 5.
