In celebration of Public Image Ltd.’s fortieth anniversary, Abramorama and Verisimilitude have released the first official trailer and poster of the new music documentary The Public Image Is Rotten. The career-spanning documentary, tells the story of music icon John Lydon and his pioneering group PiL with a level of depth and intimacy never before seen.
Visual effects studio Mr. Wolf has opened a studio in Vancouver. The company, which also has operations in Los Angeles and New York, has hired veteran VFX producer Chad Cortvriendt to head the new outpost as executive producer. Cortvriendt is currently leading a team of artists in creating visual effects for the third season of Syfy’s horror anthology series Channel Zero.
Post-production finishing for the first season of Vida, the new half-hour drama from Starz and executive producer Tanya Saracho, was recently completed at MTI Film. Senior colorist Steve Porter worked with series cinematographer Carmen Cabana in finalizing the look of the show, which has just been renewed for a second season and has drawn rave reviews for its revealing portrait of Latinx life in East Los Angeles.
Cineworld Group and Cinemark Holdings have agreed to buy the remaining units of National CineMedia currently owned by AMC Entertainment, 21.5 million units for approximately $156.8 million. Cineworld and Cinemark will each acquire half of the units and will fund the transaction with available cash.

“I think if you’re making a high school movie, you can’t not watch John Hughes movies for reference,” said cinematographer Hillary Spera (Duck Butter, Submission). “Even if it’s subliminal, they’re woven into the language.” Filmmaker John Hughes had a string of hit films in the 1980s that were a true depiction of high school life in middle class suburbia. Movies like 16 Candles, The Breakfast Club, and Pretty in Pink portrayed teen characters with depth and intelligence but were also comedic.
Reel Cinemas has announced that it is adding a ScreenX screen to its theatre in The Dubai Mall, which is the world’s largest and most visited retail and entertainment destination and welcomes more than 80 million visitors every year.
The Fourth Annual Asian World Film Festival will once again be held in Culver City, California with opening night scheduled for October 24 and closing night November 1. This year's theme will focus on the female empowerment, said the festival’s executive director Georges N. Chamchoum.
