Unique X has named Roger Harris chief executive officer. Harris will start his position with Unique X on the October 1 after the successful transition of his responsibilities as managing director for RealD in EMEA and Russia. His role is to direct and oversee the rapid international expansion of Unique X’s portfolio of digital cinema software systems and services.
Éclair has announced plans to convert the Italian cinema circuit Ciné Gionate di Cinema with EclairBox systems through its Italian branch, OpenSky Cinema. The announcement was made in Riccione at the Ciné Giornate di Cinema 2018, the official convention of cinema exhibitors (ANEC and ANEM).

In a project spanning six months, Rising Sun Pictures produced 86 visual effects shots for Animal World, the new fantasy adventure film that debuted to considerable fanfare at this year’s Shanghai International Film Festival and is currently in international release. The work drew on the full gamut of the studio’s core strengths and included everything from a card-playing creature to a loopy dream sequence, a mind-blowing car chase and a moody hero shot of Destiny, the hulking freighter-turned-floating-casino that serves as the film’s primary location.
Technology fails. Anyone reading this article knows that even better than I do. That’s been a fact of life in the motion picture business from the earliest days. Film jammed in cameras and projectors, light bulbs burned out unexpectedly, and sound systems malfunctioned for no apparent reason. In each case, the people involved addressed the problem and moved on. Thankfully, technology today is more robust and reliable than ever before and when something goes wrong it’s often easier to fix than ever before. But technology isn’t always the issue. Increasingly in today’s competitive entertainment environment, the important issue is customer relations.
South Africa’s Nu Metro Cinemas is opening Xtreme theatres at Nu Metro Emperors Palace in Johannesburg and Nu Metro Galleria on the KZN South Coast.
AMC Theatres has renewed and extended its 3D agreement with RealD across its domestic platform through 2024. In addition, AMC has committed to installing RealD 3D systems in all new-build theatres and as they upgrade, renovate and improve existing AMC locations in North America during the term of the extension.
